OBITUARIES

 

 

ALVIN BENSON, 69, of Memphis, died Sunday, September 9, 2007 at St Francis Bartlett Hospital. He was affectionately known to his family as “Bud” and his friends called him “Al”. Al was born September 20, 1937 in Marks, MS to the late Julian C. "JC" Benson and Edith Watson. Al graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1957. Al served in the US Army from December 9, 1958 to March 19, 1962 and from June 17, 1963 to June 16, 1966. He served in The Korean and Vietnam Wars. Al worked at RCA, Sears, and Color Title, and was a self-employed contractor. Visitation will be at T H Hayes and Sons Funeral Home, 680 S. Lauderdale, on Sunday, September 16 from 3-5:55 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. Interment will be Monday, September 17 at 1 p.m. at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. He leaves his stepmother, Birteal Benson of Memphis; his son, Alvin Julian Benson; two sisters, Irma Jean Bell of Marks, MS and LaVarne Curry of Panama City, FL; one brother, George Watson of Memphis; and three grandchildren, Ebonye, Kacee, and Alex Benson.
