OBITUARIES

 

 

CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS ROOKS, 79 of Memphis, husband of Mildred Marie Wilder Rooks, retired 1st Mate for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, alumnus of Booker T. Washington High School, died on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at Memphis Veterans Medical Center at Memphis. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 26, from 5-7 p.m. at Harrison’s Funeral Home Chapel, 2647 Carnes Avenue. He will lie instate on Tuesday, February 27,from 10-10:55 am at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 491 E. McLemore where he was a member, with funeral ceremony at 11 a.m. with Pastor A. McKinley Royal officiating. Interment with military honors to follow at 1 p.m. in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd. He also leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Alice M. Rooks of Memphis, TN and Karol Faye (Wendell) Mayo of Eads, TN; two sons, Alvin Rooks of Houston, TX and Cory T. Rooks of Memphis, TN; four sisters, Gladys Waddy of Redwood, CA, Betty E. (Albert) Bonds of Chicago, IL, Wilma Jackson of San Diego, CA and Queen E. Thompson of Vacaville, CA; four brothers, George (Christine) Peoples of Cleveland, OH, James Odell (Delores) Berry of Atlanta, GA, Jewel (Francis) Berry of Richmond, VA, and James Edward Berry of Nashville, TN; one grandson whom he raised, Steven Wilder of Memphis; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
