OBITUARIES

 

 

MILDRED LOUISE OATES JOSEPH, 80, of Memphis, retired educator and co-owner of J.C. Oates & Son Funeral Home, departed this life Monday, January 22, 2007 at Cordova Rehabilitation Center, preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Joseph Jr. She leaves three loving sons, William A. (Butch) Turner, Jr. of Memphis, Jesse D. (Linda) Joseph of Nashville and Sidney O. (Shirley) Joseph of Bartlett. Mrs. Joseph graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1943 and received her B.S. Degree from Wilber Force University in 1947. She taught fourth grade in the Memphis City School for nearly 35 years at Hamilton, Riverview, Wisconsin, and Hollywood Elementary Schools, until retiring in 1985. Visitation with the family will be Friday from 9-11:45 a.m. January 26 at First Baptist Church Chelsea, 500 North Fourth St. Services will follow at 12 noon. Dr. Justin R. Holloway, Pastor. Rev. Hubon P. Sandridge Jr. officiating. Interment will be on Monday, January 29 in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd. Memphis. The family would like to thank the staff of Carriage Court Assisted Living and Cordova Rehabilitation and Nursing Home for the loving care and kindness they have shown Mrs. Mildred for the past 5 years.
